2026 Cultural Exchange Event “The Treaty of Amity, Commerce and Navigation between Japan and Belgium”
On May 29, 2026, a cultural exchange event was held to mark the 160th anniversary of Japan–Belgium friendship, focusing on the Treaty of Amity, Commerce and Navigation concluded in 1866.
Participants visited a special exhibition at the Kokugakuin University Museum, where they viewed the original instrument of ratification and received an insightful explanation by Associate Professor Carbonnet (KU Leuven). In the second session, Mr. DE RUYVER (Flanders Investment & Trade) spoke on the historical background and significance of the treaty.
The event concluded successfully with the generous support of the Ambassador and Embassy staff. We sincerely thank all participants and supporters.
